Miniature Monday: Purchases from Karen Aird's Show

Loretta Kasza created this lovely lady.  Her dress and face are beautiful.  I also love the nice work on her fingers, the porcelain is so clean.

Bespaq - I also purchased 2 matching chairs and coffee table.  This set is so incredibly dainty in person.

I've been trying to limit my purchases to actual projects I will use the item in, but have to admit I couldn't resist this set.

I purchased a few of these to use as fillers in my antique shop.

Miniature Monday: Karen Aird's 4th Annual Miniature Show

On Sunday the ladies and I took the 1 hour trip to Warren, New Jersey for Karen Aird's 4th Annual Holiday Show (Click Here for her Website). Here are some general highlights:

I wanted to buy........ALL of them.

This picture cannot do the paintings or needlepoint rugs justice!

The bookshelf is full of the most amazing handcrafted books.  The artist, Marilyn Crockette, told me the rugs take her months to complete.  I can believe that since my bath mat kit took me a million years (still not done.....)

This show was the perfect size for me. One large ballroom and the outside hall.   I am easily distracted by conversation and really love to chat with the vendors, especially ones I've never met and those who handcraft their items. I also have to look at absolutely everything on each table.  I got caught up at a vendor selling back issues of magazines  and waging a marketing campaign the likes of which I've never seen.  They host a new online community for miniaturists Smallisimo (click here for their website).  I was very excited to meet their team and look forward to browsing their site.  I'm ridiculous about my miniature magazine collection.  They are arranged on one huge wall in my home office and I have an excel workbook to keep track of which ones I have and which I'm missing.  I refer to them all the time for how-to's and inspiration.

This show was amazing, Karen did a great job.  Back when I made porcelain dolls and was a vendor myself, Karen and I always had our tables next to or near each other.   I was thrilled when she mentioned she would be starting her own show in our area!  At yesterday's show, Karen provided a buffet of snacks, coffee, tea and water available all day to the vendors and shoppers.  She even had her young helpers walking around handing out fresh baked goodies to keep your shopping energy up!  That was such a great idea, I didn't even break for lunch.  I bought a lot of good stuff!  Close up photos of my favorite items in upcoming posts.

Miniature Giveaway #3 CLOSED - 100 Subscribers Celebration

I have over 100 subscribers! I'm excited to have you and so appreciative of the time you choose to spend reading my itty bitty adventures.

To celebrate, I'm having 4 giveaways - one per week during August. This is giveaway #3.

I love witch, wizard, Halloween stuff!  When I'm working on a project, I usually make more than I need.  This week's giveaway features items you can use in your spooky scene.

I put the toothpick in the photo for an idea of scale (1/12th)

There are 2 leather books, a few stacks of papers, a crystal ball, a scroll, a few rolled and flat maps, assorted potion bottles, a skull, a mixing bowl, a magic wand, candles, and a bunch of other stuff.  My youngest son and I spent one afternoon making what seemed like a million candles from polymer clay.  It was a great project for a little person to feel included, and he did an amazing job!

For this giveaway, the lucky winner will get everything in the picture (except the floor). To participate in the drawing, please follow my blog and leave a comment on this post. At the end of the month, I will have a drawing for each post/giveaway and announce the winners!

Thank you so much!

Miniature Giveaway #2 CLOSED - 100 Subscribers Celebration

I have over 100 subscribers! I'm excited to have you and so appreciative of the time you choose to spend reading my itty bitty adventures.

To celebrate, I'm having 4 giveaways - one per week during August.  This is giveaway #2.   This adorable baby girl was purchased on ebay.  I cannot remember the artist, I've had the baby in my collection for a while.  The crib is not part of the giveaway, I'm including it in the picture to show you she's to scale (1/12th).

I love when babies stretch then curl up into a little ball.  The artist did a wonderful job capturing that precious moment.  The baby is sculpted from polymer clay, and she's got a little bit of baby hair on the top of her head.

For this giveaway, the lucky winner will get the doll and her pink blanket.  To participate in the drawing, please follow my blog and leave a comment on this post. At the end of the month, I will have a drawing for each post/giveaway and announce the winners!

Thank you so much!

Miniature Monday: More treasures from the Lehigh Valley Miniature Show

Handcrafted by Joyce Slimmons.  Aren't these pieces lovely?  Everything is 1/12th scale.  She had all of these pieces and several more artfully arranged on 3 acrylic floors inside a birdcage.  The entire birdcage with it's stand was sold together with the miniatures.  I am so happy to have purchased her work, I love it!

Miniature Monday: Lehigh Valley Miniature Show

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Last weekend, my girlfriends and I attended the Lehigh Valley Miniature Show.  The show is hosted by the Lehigh Valley Small on Scale Miniatures Club. You can click HERE  for their website.   We make the 2 hour trek from Brooklyn to Pennsylvania every year and really enjoy the show.  It's a small show, which is perfect for me since I take forever to look at each table.  I always manage to find incredible miniatures from talented artists.  I'll be sharing some of my goodies over the next few posts.

I spent a fair amount of time at Arlene Finkelstein's table (Artistic Florals.)  She's an inspirational miniaturist who loves to teach others her beautiful techniques.   While I love flower making, I LOVE flower buying even more.  Remembering how hard I worked on the lemon tree she taught me, when I saw this orange tree on her table, I bought it immediately.

These two arrangements caught my eye and I had to have them for my kitchen roombox.

The two tiny pots on the right are 1/2" scale sunflowers.

Miniature Monday - Incense Burners from Baubles

My latest obsession continues; experimenting with jewelry findings, beads and chains.  I've come up with hanging miniature incense burners.

The last one on the right is still in progress.  I'm going to add something dangly on the bottom.

Here is a close-up. The round gold findings are earings that I took apart; my very 80's earrings!  I'm going to make a few that are silver and antique looking.

I've made a few incense burners that don't hang and will photograph them for next week's post.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Miniature Monday: Lemon Tree

Last week, a group of us got together to work on lemon trees.  One of my friends put the kits together for us and we spent the day at her house chatting and turning wire, paint, clay and paper into this:

My very first miniature lemon tree! I love it. The only thing I would do differently next time will be to put more branches in, but I am very pleased with my first attempt.

The branches started out as about 9-10 pieces of wire, twisted together and coated to look like wood.  Then the flowers are assembled with each being glued on individually, as are the leaves.  The lemons were last.  I kept having to make sure they were hanging properly.

The friend who put the kits together and hosted us doesn't have a web site, but sells at shows and through other vendors.  Here's a sampling of her work: Artistic Florals by Arlene  and Artistic Florals 1/2" scale- she is awesome!

A great resource for pre-punched petals and punches is Hanky Panky Crafts( http://hankypankycrafts.com/ ).  I've purchased many of their punches and books.  I have to warn you though, miniature plant and flower making is addictive!

Miniature Monday: Minis for My Merchant of Granada Marketplace

I have been collecting miniatures to use in my Merchant of Granada roombox.

When I go to miniature shows, I have an idea of which projects I am shopping for.  This helps me to stay focused and actually finish the miniature scenes I have in progress.  I don't usually give myself a budget, because when I see something I really really really need, I buy it!  Of course I know I don't "need" anything, but who could pass up a beautiful miniature?

That being said, in between shows, I'm able to "shop" in my own workroom! I love that.  I've gathered all of my recently purchased goodies and those from my stash for this project. I lay everything out, then pick through them, trying different combinations in the scene.  I then let it all sit, make changes, and repeat the process.  Four days to make the structure and three months to decide on what's going inside.  I have to laugh!  It takes me a while to decide, and I often just tack things down and not glue them in place.  I thought I'd share a few pictures of the goodies I've laid out so far!

Some of these items are jewelry charms.  The two multicolored tables are from Bespaq.  The pottery, hand made by various miniature artisans.   I love the handwoven baskets. If you have any questions, please let me know.
